中国戏曲八百多年的历史传统不断,并仍具有着毋庸置疑的强大生命力,一个重要的原因便在于它总是贴近时代和民众。贴近民众,表现在戏曲一以贯之与民众息息相通的精神联系之人民性,贴近时代,则是以曾经不断的声腔剧种更迭来适应时代的需求并完成对自身的美及其形式的扬弃和积累。戏曲要跟着时代走进社会主义,是否今天应该革除老的声腔、剧种,创造新剧种?这是一个严肃的理论、实践问题,不必轻下结论。但至少建国40年的戏改道路已经揭示:即使是集古典戏曲艺术之大成的京剧,在其艺术表现的合理与完善上还远未达到极致,而它与今天民众及新时代的贴近上曾很有作为并且今后仍还大有可为。突出的表现就是京剧作为古老的剧
