“2004新写意水墨画邀请展”将于2004年10月在中国美术馆举办。为了增加展览的学术含量,5月10日,“2004新写意水墨画邀请展”组委会在中国画研究院举行了一次小型的对话活动,部分在京的理论家和画家就“写意状态”问题进行了交流。与会专业媒体有《美术观察》、《美术》和《美术向导》。座谈会主持人为刘骁纯。参加研讨的理论家、画家、媒体代表有(按发言先后顺序排列):刘骁纯、龙瑞(转达)、张淮胜、刘曦林、郎绍君、徐虹、贾浩义、王仲、贾方舟、聂鸥、李人毅、陈履生、水天中、田黎明、徐沛君、李一、彭薇、刘庆和、南溪、党中国、刘进安、石建国等。会议触及的学术问题分别是:“写意状态”的矛盾范畴；“写意”的不同层次、不同境界；“写意”与“伪写意”；艺术家的人格状态和“写意状态”。
