《遇劫记》是美国殖民地时期作家玛丽·罗兰森根据自己被印第安人俘虏的亲身经历创作而成。作为通俗文学作品、宗教文献和历史档案,《遇劫记》所具有的文学、宗教和历史价值都已得到肯定。本文从身份研究的角度分析作品,指出作品传达了北美殖民者拥有既不同于印第安人、又不同于英国人或其他欧洲人的身份信息,并探寻这块北美殖民地在寻求政治独立、生活在那里的殖民者在确立“美国人”身份的过程中《遇劫记》所起的作用,进一步指出该作品所具有的文化和政治意义。
The Case of Robbery was created by Mary Rowland in the American colonial period on the basis of personal experience of being captured by the Indians. As a popular literary work, religious literature and historical archives, the literary, religious and historical values of “Case of Robbery” have all been affirmed.
