成鱼饲养是把越冬后的鱼种(或二龄鱼种)饲养到合乎食用规格的商品鱼这一生产过程。根据各地不尽一致的消费习惯,尾鱼400～1500g的长吻鮠颇受欢迎,这种规格成鱼的饲养周期为1～2年。 长吻鮠自身的若干特征如吻很长、口下位、取食笨拙、游动迟钝、耗氧率高等决定了它宜于单养,一般不能跟抢食能力强、价值又较低的鲤、鲫、草鱼、革胡子鲶、罗非鱼等混养。广东顺德市在养鳗土地里混养长吻鮠取得的成功则说明它还是能够与少数几种鱼搭配饲养的。 迄今,最成功的成鱼饲养方式是微流水池塘单养,网箱与流水池(包括温流水)饲养也都有了成功的典型,工厂化饲养有待继续试验。
