The new water-based polymer system developed for environmental safety has been developed for high temperature (232 ° C) and high pressure drilling. The system is a synthetic polymer that is free of chromium and other environmentally unfriendly harmful substances. It not only controls rheological properties and prevent fluid loss at high temperatures, but also greatly simplifies the formulation of high temperature drilling fluids. One of the major advantages of traditional high temperature systems (which often require large amounts of additives to control or limit the effects of thermal degradation) is that only two polymers are needed, one pH control additive, a weighting material and a small amount to control the quality of the cake clay. Excellent protection against common contaminants, such as calcium and magnesium hardening and solid particle build-up, is another important feature of the new system. The new system, formulated with freshwater or seawater, can be used flexibly in many drilling environments.
