The process of globalization, marketization and decentralization along with economic transformation is an important force for the reconstruction of urban space in China. Taking Nanjing as an example, based on the basic unit survey in 2001 and the second economic census in 2008, spatial analysis, Binary Logistic model, and spatial autocorrelation model were used to deeply discuss the internal manufacturing space in China’s cities during the transition period. Reconstruct the process and explain its influencing factors from the aspects of enterprise exit and entry. The study finds that the manufacturing space in Nanjing presents a trend of continuous suburbanization, and a specialized centralized distribution area is formed at the periphery, which is represented by the distribution pattern of “large dispersion, small concentration”; in particular, major development parks become a re-aggregation of manufacturing industries. Important carriers, together with main highways, constitute a “dot-shaft” manufacturing space pattern. The statistical results further show that globalization indicators such as the level of foreign investment participation and industry extroversion can effectively promote the agglomeration of manufacturing industries in the suburbs, but have not promoted the withdrawal of enterprises in the old urban areas; market-based factors such as urban land prices and the development level of non-public ownership economy, etc. Decentralized virtual variables such as development zones and urban areas have significantly affected the process of spatial withdrawal and reaggregation of manufacturing enterprises within the city.
