本文评述了岩石和岩石样品的强度概念和两者的差别，指出岩石强度指标与样品强度指标几乎没有关系。作者认为，如果不对岩石的尺寸加以说明，则强度概念不适用于岩石或其它任何弹-脆性固体。岩石样品的强度指标是样品的尺寸函数，而岩石的极限允许应力是岩石的常量。根据现阶段岩石物理学的发展，建议修改俄罗斯国家标准（гOCT））确定宕石强度的方法。
This paper reviews the concept of strength and the difference between rock and rock samples and points out that there is almost no correlation between rock strength and sample strength. The authors believe that the concept of strength does not apply to rock or any other bullet-brittle solid without the size of the rock being described. The strength index of a rock sample is a function of the size of the sample, and the limit allowable stress of a rock is a constant of the rock. According to the present stage of the development of petrophysics, it is suggested to amend the Russian National Standard (гOCT)) to determine the strength of the stone.
