1. Introduction Japan’s Matsuda and NEC have been studying near-infrared laser radars used to monitor and detect obstacles in front of their vehicles. The findings suggest that LIDARs, which have practical value and detection capabilities for both vehicles and pedestrians, can be developed. This study is part of an advanced safety vehicle (ASV) research and development program. It is the key technology in the preventive safety system that the car detects obstacles and pedestrians while driving and sends an alarm to start the brake automatically.
