Affected by bank interest rates, the U.S. economy has cooled down this year. According to figures released by the U.S. Department of Commerce on April 28, the real GDP of the United States in the first quarter of this year was 5.4717 trillion U.S. dollars, an increase of 2.8% over the previous quarter. This growth rate is not only significantly lower than the 5.1% annual growth rate in the fourth quarter of last year, but also the lowest growth rate since the third quarter of 1993. In order to “cool down” the “overheated” economy, the Federal Reserve raised the federal funds rate from 3% to 6% seven times from February 4 last year to February 1 this year. During the same period, commercial banks increased their prime lending to customers with the best credit rating from 6% to 9%.
