In recent years, it has been confirmed that the pituitary posterior hormones oxytocin and arginine vasopressin (AVP) are not confined to the hypothalamus—the neuropituitary system. Immunocytochemistry and direct assays suggest that these two hormones are widely distributed in the central nervous system of rats and humans, and this site is exactly the starting point of preganglionic neurons.
