This article uses the coverage of Ye Shiwen in the journal Nature as a corpus and analyzes and reveals how Nature treats readers to understand discourse in their own ways, combining criticizing discourse perspective and relevance theory. The study found that “natural” reported manipulation strategies include exaggerated, weakening, obfuscation, omission, implicit and other means. These means are superposed with the reputation of “nature” and the author’s good argument. On the one hand, the reader can only process the information in a limited context; on the other hand, it effectively prevents the triggering of other contextual assumptions. Therefore, critical discourse analysis should analyze discourse more from the perspective of discourse recipients.
