With this work, Wharton ranks among the best American writers. In “Delight House”, Wharton portrays the upper class society of New York City in the United States in a delicate manner. In such a high society full of hypocritical moral values, not only is the nature of women alienated, but also the gender relations in society are alienated. From the perspective of alienation theory, this article attempts to combine alienation with feminism to analyze the phenomenon of alienation of female characters in Joy House and its consequences, and dig out the reasons behind the alienation of feminism.
