沈周(1427-1509年),字启南,号石田,晚号白石翁,长洲(今江苏吴县)相城里人,是明代最具影响的绘画大师,其画作在当时已备受青睐。时逢明代中叶,商品经济萌芽,书画买卖十分活跃,部分画商利用人们对沈周画的需求,制作赝品,牟取暴利,致使一批沈画伪作在社会上广为流传。
Shen Zhou (1427-1509), Zi Qinnan, Ishida, late Shiraishi Weng, Cheung Chau (now Wuxian, Jiangsu Province), was the most influential master of painting in the Ming Dynasty. His paintings were very popular at the time. At the time of the mid-Ming Dynasty, the commodity economy was sprouting and trading of paintings and calligraphy was very active. Some of the painters used the people’s demand for Shen Zhou’s paintings to make fakes and make huge profits. As a result, a group of fake paintings were widely circulated in the society.
