I. INTRODUCTION Thermal Conductivity Detectors have been in use for more than 20 years since they were first applied to gas chromatography in 1952. Despite the application of other selective detectors, there has been a quantum leap in development. However, as a general-purpose detector, the thermal conductivity responds to almost all substances, and so far it is still the most widely used detector in gas chromatography. According to a survey conducted by the United States GowMac in 1965, it is pointed out that about 70% of the GCs in the United States are equipped with TCDs; most domestic chromatographs use a thermal conductivity cell as a detector.
