《惠直堂经验方》四卷成书于清代康熙年间,系清代浙江会稽县人陶承熹历二十年搜罗博采众方暨其外祖李大来验方和其父陶式玉效方共一千有余辑集而成.《中国医籍大辞典·方书类》定此书所载方剂“不惟广收博采,而又多经前人历试有验,故为一部颇为实用的方书”.根据《中国古医籍书目提要》统计,现存清康熙三十四年乙亥(1695年)侣山堂刻本、清雍正十三年乙卯(1735年)东壁堂刻本、清乾隆二十四年己卯(1759年)风自堂刻本、清乾隆四十九年甲辰(1784年)步云阁刻本.然而,版本源头以及辑者陶承熹的家世皆未考定.兹利用档案、方志、家乘和别集等史料,考定雍正本为最早刻本并梳理浙江会稽县人陶承熹的生平家世,展示医药世家的文化传承风貌.
