(US) National Brain Research Foundation held a meeting of scientists in basic and clinical research from academia, government and private hospitals on new advances in treatment options for the early stages of stroke, stroke progression, and lessening of harm Made a discussion. The symposium was held on May 10, 1994 in Washington. The main topics were: (1) the importance of stroke and its basic pathophysiology; (2) the early identification and diagnosis of stroke; and (3) the early treatment of stroke. Stroke is a medical emergency that requires an immediate response as it did to a heart attack. In fact, stroke is a “brain attack,” and although new advances in basic and clinical neuroscience have made it possible to improve the management of acute stroke, the current general approach to treating stroke patients remains confused. The public’s lack of knowledge about the symptoms and severity of stroke also contributes to this issue. A 1989 survey by the American Heart Association in San Francisco found that almost two-thirds of respondents were unable to correctly identify early signs of stroke from a range of symptoms, while 90% said at least one major Heart attack sign. At the Fifth Symposium on Brain Decade, sponsored by the National Brain Research Foundation, prominent speakers provided a general overview of trends and new ideas in stroke research and treatment. The treatment window for the improvement and prevention of secondary damage to stroke can be broadened through the strategies described by several speakers. In addition, there is a need for increased education so that stroke can be recognized as a brain attack and medical emergency, and patients can be quickly transported to medical units and started treatment as soon as possible.
