Phillip Research Laboratories has invented a simple technique that enables the coupling of inaccurately manufactured glass optical fibers, allowing a total tolerance of 100 μm, which can be used to spin off the fiber alignment process. This new technology for glass fiber coupling is done in two steps. First place a sleeve on one end of each fiber and then use a coupling block to precisely hold the two sleeves against each other. Use the rotating prism system to precisely align the core on the lathe.
