1959年西德J,Smidt报导了由烯烃直接氧化合成羰基化合物的新方法;1960年И.И.Моисеев报导了乙烯直接合成醋酸乙烯的新方法。他们都采用了钯盐催化剂。新方法引起普遍重视,主要是由于在原料上乙烯和乙炔之间的竞争(前者主要来自石油,且价廉,后者主要来自煤,电耗大,成本高),促进了对钯系催化剂的研究。从六十年代初期到现在,用钯系催化剂进行烯烃的氧化反应,已成功用于工业生产乙醛、丙酮、醋酸乙烯等化工原料。关于催化氧化过程的热力学、动力学、机理等有关反应实质的研究,和钯系催化剂作用下的新的烯烃的氧化反应及扩展应用的研究, In 1959 West Germany, Smidt reported a new method for the direct synthesis of carbonyl compounds from olefins.
