外语教学中向来争议最大的两个论点可能是:1.必须以外语作为教学手段,尽量避免使用本族语;2.必须以日常会话为教学内容,学生的读写练习只能建筑在口头完全掌握材料的基础上.这两个论点构成三种相当不同的理论和实践的中心,对这三种不同的教学方法和概念有必要加以区分.1.直接法这个名称有时用来指以外语作为教学手段的任何一种语言教学方法,在本文中,它仅指本世纪初,特别是两次大战期间广泛流行的教学法.当时的许多技巧和练习我们至今仍在沿用.
