Objective To investigate the long-term effects of painless childbirth on social adaptability and intelligence of neonates by spinal anesthesia. Methods One hundred and twenty-one pregnant women with vaginal delivery of singleton pregnancies were enrolled. One hundred and fifty cases of painless childbirth under spinal canal anesthesia were treated as painless childbirth group and 116 cases of no analgesia were given as non-painless childbirth group. After follow-up, the adaptive behavior scale and the Wechsler Intelligence score of children were measured and compared after birth. Results The total scores of Adaptation Behavior Scale (AMI) in painless childbirth group were (192.67 ± 13.54) and (115.30 ± 37.53) points respectively, while those in non-painless childbirth group were (196.31 ± 14.31) and (113.69 ± 34.14) points, there was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion The application of spinal anesthesia in painless labor has no obvious effect on the future social adaptability and intelligence of neonates.
