In a piston compressor suction line, the suction line is subjected to pressure fluctuations due to the periodic movement of the piston. Compressor cylinder air volume determines the amount of gas transmission. For the best of piston compressors’ work, it strives to achieve such a fluctuating process that at the end of the suction process the pressure in the compressor’s valve chamber is increased. This can occur when the compressor suction tube resonates, ie when the natural frequency of the suction tube air is equal to or multiples of the forced vibration determined by the compressor spindle. The effect of resonance on compressor operation can be either good or bad, depending on whether the relative atmospheric pressure in front of the suction valve increases or decreases at the instant the valve is closed at resonance.
