四楞豆,地上长豆,地下结薯,全身窗含蛋白质,有高蛋白植物之称。它是一种粮、油、菜、肥兼用的多年生藤蔓热带作物。株大、枝叶茂、丛生卷须,叶片心脏形,花蓝或淡紫色,豆荚横切椭园形,荚长10—20厘米,为绿、紫或红色,荚有四棱,故得名“四楞豆”。种子象豌豆,大而圆,为褐、灰、黑或杂色。四楞豆的种子含蛋白质34—40%,含脂肪17%左右。嫩豆荚含蛋白质1.9—2.9%和丰富的维生素,是幼嫩多汁富有营养的蔬菜。鲜叶中含蛋白质5.7—15%,花含蛋白质5.6%。以花、叶作汤,将花用油煎调后,味似蘑菇。怒江两岸的傣族以叶做成凉菜,
