Cancer pain is one of the important symptoms of cancer patients, especially in advanced cancer patients. An important factor affecting the satisfaction of cancer pain control is the education and popularization of cancer pain knowledge. In this paper, a multi-center survey method was used to investigate the cancer pain knowledge and attitudes of medical staff provided by the World Health Organization. From July to August 1996, 166 oncology nurses (students) from 6 hospitals were randomly investigated. The results showed that: A considerable number of nurses lack knowledge about cancer pain and clinical pharmacology of opiates. They have not fully grasped the three-step approach to pain relief and related principles advocated by the World Health Organization. It is suggested that we should strengthen the education and training of nurses on cancer pain knowledge and skills.
