当今竞技体育对运动员的体能要求越来越高,除了科学和刻苦的训练外,运动员还必须有合理的营养来支持。研究发现,运动员如果仅从日常普通膳食中获得营养物质是不够的,还必须额外补充一些特殊营养物质才能满足高强度训练和比赛的需要。对于特殊营养物质,运动界中有“强力营养物质”、“运动营养补剂”、“运动营养补充品”等称谓。不管其称呼如何,其目的都是通过摄入一些具有特定功能的食品来提高运动员的身体素质,从而提高运动能力。运动员合理补充特殊营养物质已成为科学训练的重要组成部分。
