Barley is a special crop that grows in alpine regions at an average altitude of 3,000 meters. Due to the special qualities of barley, it has become the staple food for Tibetans living in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Barley belongs to Gramineae and Hordeum and is a variant of Hordeum vulgate L. Alias is also called naked barley, rye, wheat and barley. The fruit of the barley is called the caryopsis, which is commonly known as the grain of wheat. After ripening, the caryopsis is easily separated from the civet (commonly known as the wheat husk) and is also called rye. Barley, which is distinguished from the barley, is another variant of the barley, often called bark barley, which, when ripe, adheres to the caryopsis and is difficult to separate.
