The former Federal Republic of Germany has a land area of 248,000 km2, with 490,000 km of highways, of which approximately 9000km are expressways, second only to the United States being the second largest in the world. The road network extending in all directions has brought great benefits to the country’s prosperity and people’s livelihood, but at the same time there has also been the problem of undermining the human living environment as a result of road construction. Therefore, protecting the environment and reducing pollution have become an increasingly important part of road design, and some regulations or norms have been formulated for this purpose. Here are some of their environmental protection measures.
