[Objective]To determine the contents of total saponins in Panpax notoginseng(Burk.) F.H.chen stems,leaves and roots at different growth ages in different production areas,and to analyze the effects of growth age and production area on the total saponins of P.notoginseng.[Method]Contents of total saponins in P.notoginseng stems,leaves and roots were detected by UV spectrophotometry.And the detection wavelength was 560 nm.[Result] Contents of total saponins in P.notoginseng stems,leaves and roots enhanced with the increase of growth age.Among them,total saponins content in roots enhanced by 46.5% each year,which was the most significant increase.Fluctuation was the most greatest in two-year-old P.notoginseng roots.At the same time,contents of total saponins in P.notoginseng stems and leaves enhanced by 23.9% and 33.9% each year,respectively.And total saponins content in one-year-old P.notoginseng leaves showed relatively great fluctuation;the total saponins content in P.notoginseng roots was higher than those in P.notoginseng leaves and stems.[Conclusion]There were differences in the total saponins contents in different parts of P.notoginseng at different growth ages.
