TEL and AML1 genes are common target genes for chromosomal translocations of hematopoietic malignancies. The TEL-AML1 fusion caused by t (12; 21) is the most common genetic alteration in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is a good indicator of prognosis one. This article reviews the role of TEL and AML1 genes in the hematopoietic system and the clinical significance of TEL-AML1 fusion.
