Objective: To compare the effects of midapril and benazepril on central and peripheral arterial pressure in hypertensive patients. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind study of patients with mild-to-moderate essential hypertension aged 18-79 years after randomization to the imidapril group (5-10 mg po, qd) or benazepril (10-20 mg, po, qd) for 6 weeks. All patients underwent pulse wave examination before beginning the study and at the end of the study. Only patients who completed 6 weeks of treatment were included in the final analysis. RESULTS: A total of 98 patients completed the study. There was no significant difference in baseline data between the two groups (all P> 0.05). After 6 weeks of treatment, all the observed indexes of pulse wave decreased significantly (all P <0.01), but there was no significant difference between the two groups except brachial artery pulse pressure and reflex hyperbolic index (all P> 0.05). Conclusion: Imidapril and benazepril reduce peripheral arterial pressure and central arterial pressure as effectively.
