语言与文化密不可分,语言承载并反映文化,两者相互影响,相互渗透。文化负载词汇是语言与文化的结晶。汉语文化负载词的翻译历来是翻译界的难题,由于中西文化巨大差异,在翻译文化负载词时,译者很难找到完全对等的表达。《红楼梦》两个英译本译者根据不同的翻译目的 ,在传递不同背景的文化信息方面各自采取了不同的翻译策略和方法。通过该文学作品中的例子,本文将以彼得·纽马克的交际翻译及语义翻译理论为指导,具体分析两译本并准确理解原文的思想主旨,灵活、变通地采用翻译方法,使汉语文化负载词的英译能够保留源语文化特色并促进源语文化与目标语文化的交流。
Language and culture are inseparable, the language bears and reflects the culture, and the two interact and permeate each other. Culturally loaded words are the crystallization of language and culture. The translation of Chinese culture load words has always been a puzzle for the translator community. Due to the huge differences between Chinese and Western cultures, it is very hard for the translator to find exactly equivalent expressions when translating culturally loaded words. The two English versions of A Dream of Red Mansions have adopted different strategies and methods for translating different versions of their cultural information according to different purposes of translation. Through the examples in the literary works, this essay will take Peter Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation theories as guidance, specifically analyzing the two translations and accurately understanding the original ideas of the original texts, applying the translation method flexibly and flexibly, and making Chinese culturally loaded words The English translation of the source language can preserve the cultural characteristics and promote the source language culture and the target language culture exchange.
