Kant’s purpose kingdom is an ethical community rather than a political community. According to Katrin Flikschuh, scholars such as Christine M. Korsgaard interpret the kingdom of purpose as a normative political community from the standpoint of common legislation and coercion. The core point of Katrin Flikschuh is that the kingdom of purpose is created by the bounded rationality of an individual, not the result of an interaction between individuals, for each finite rational being is only coerced by its moral rules and not by the moral rules of others. Such a kingdom of purpose as a system as a whole is like Leibniz’s predecessor, a harmonious community in which any substantial interaction between individual members is ruled out. However, the systematic nature of the kingdom of purpose lies precisely in the “intent and means of interaction” among its members, and the interpretation of Katrin Flikschuh deviates from it.
