According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, in 2007, China’s GDP grew 11% and its fiscal revenue reached 5 trillion yuan, an increase of 31%. The CPI for the whole year increased by 4.8%, while the per capita disposable income of urban residents increased by 17.2% Income of rural residents increased by 15.4% (According to Xie Fuzhan, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, incomes of urban residents actually increased by 12.2% after deducting price factors and the actual growth of rural residents was 9.5%). This means that while the economy is growing at a rapid rate and national strength is significantly strengthened, people across the country have not simultaneously shared the fruits of economic growth. Moreover, in the face of the fast-growing CPI, the real purchasing power of the people has even declined.
