Objective To understand the hazards of production noise of quarries to the health of workers. Methods A total of 141 male workers (78 in exposed group and 63 in control group) at a quarry site were surveyed, questionnaires, field surveys and environmental monitoring were performed. Blood pressure and electrocardiogram were recorded and audiometry was performed at the same time. Results There were significant differences in the hearing impairment, abnormal blood pressure, electrocardiogram changes and neurasthenic syndrome among the noise-exposed groups compared with the control group. The above-mentioned damage tended to increase with the increase of noise-induced length of service. Conclusion Productive noise not only damages the hearing system of workers but also adversely affects the auditory and external systems.
