Objective To investigate the effect of nighttime continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on male patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) complicated with hypogonadism. Methods The serum levels of sex hormones, including testosterone (TT), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), were measured in 45 male OSAHS patients and control group. Continuous night-time CPAP treatment was performed on male OSAHS patients. Changes in serum sex hormone levels after 1 month and 3 months of treatment. Results Serum levels of sex hormones were significantly decreased in patients with OSAHS. Serum levels of sex hormones were gradually increased at 1 month and 3 months after CPAP treatment at night, especially after 3 months of treatment (P <0.01) Low, but no statistical difference (P> 0.05). Conclusions Treatment of male OSAHS patients with hypogonadal hormones with CPAP may contribute to the recovery of sex hormones and may be effective in reducing sexual dysfunction.
