This book interprets Ibsen under the theoretical framework of the French feminist theories such as de Beauvoir, Sikorsu, Kristiva, and Iridium, and the psychoanalytic theories represented by Freud and Lacan. The image of mother in O’Neill and Pinter’s representative dramas shows how mothers are marginalized into secularity in male discourse and how she resists male objectification in order to seek her position and identity in patriarchal society. This book deals with the theoretical issues related to women’s identity, women’s discourse, gender differences, gender awareness and cultural reproduction.
