花粉单倍体的遗传学问题的研究,是全国“生物学重点研究项目”的一个课题。利用花药培养诱导花粉单倍体植株,不但为细胞和分子水平上研究高等植物的一系列基本理论问题展示了广阔的前景,而且在短期内获得遗传上纯合的株型,使某些有经济价值隐性基因得到显现,缩短育种年限,提高杂交育种的预见性等,在育种学上具有实用价值。柑桔花粉的诱导成功填补了国内外在木本果树花粉植株诱导技术方面的空白,为果树利用单倍体育种和遗传学问题的研究开辟了新的途径。
