Reaction Summary The compounding of halogen derivatives with olefins was discovered in 1877 by Aleksei and Kov. He found that methyl iodide reacts with pentene when PbO is present, and the products are hexene and heptene. Earlier, Adam Butreev predicted the possibility of such reactions. He studied the reaction of isobutene with methyl iodide, isobutylene and 3-iodobutane in the presence of ZnO, together with Eugene Leremontov, and this reaction is therefore called Boutrechov- Fudge reaction.
