王以诚是六十三工人業餘学校二年級甲乙兩班的級任教師,兼任三區四小的體育和課外活動指導。二乙的學员都是搬運工人,每天上午七時至九時上課,二甲是在晚上七時至九時上課。所以他每天總是早出晚歸,緊張忙碌,沒有一點空間。在他開始担任业校工作時,會經過到了不少的困難,主要的是只照顾了進度,没有注意学員的接受能力。結果第一次測驗時,二甲全班五十三个學員中算術一科就有十五個學員得了五十分,一個得二十五分,遺有一個得了零分。失败的教訓,使他發覺脫離實際的主觀教學的錯誤,認識到了不瞭解工人的生活工作、便無法领导工人學習。因此他便開始向工人學習,并廣泛地徵求學員的意見以改進教學。重新編制了互助小組,隨時注意學員的學習情况。如發现候淑娟、劉貴兰上課打盹,他便找他們個别談話,知道是受病的牽累后,就与工廠聯系給他們治病
