Those concerned about the world’s energy geo-politics will pay attention to Venezuela and pay attention to its current president, Chavez. First of all, Venezuela has 297 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, ranking the first in the world. It produces 2.25 million barrels of oil a day and exports more than 1.9 million barrels to the fifth largest oil producer and oil exporter. Second, Chavez, newly reelected president, is treating cancer recurrence syndrome in Cuba. There have been no appearances for more than a month and all kinds of speculation are flying around. Chavez’s life and death will not only profoundly affect the trend of Venezuela’s domestic politics, but also affect the political orientation of the entire Latin American future and thus have a profound impact on the global pattern of oil and energy.
