目前对柏拉图恶的来源问题的看法往往偏于一端,但在柏拉图的思想中,只有在身体处境中的灵魂才能作为人在伦理上恶的来源。《裴洞篇》和《政治家篇》中被视为恶的原因的身体或物质不能作为恶的来源,只能作为恶的条件。而《法律篇》和《斐德若篇》中被视为善恶之因的灵魂只有在身体的特定条件下才构成人在伦理意义上恶的原因。在《斐德若篇》《理想国》和《蒂迈欧篇》中,虽然灵魂内部的非理性因素作为灵魂失序的原因是明确的,但不可忽视这只是对身体处境中的灵魂而言才成立。
