Ten airplanes were retrofitted for the control of ALCMs flying in the air and for data acquisition during flight tests. The 4950 Test Squadron devised a test instrumentation system and installed it on eight of the F-4E “Seize” aircraft of the squadron’s two EC-135N Advanced Range Surveying Aircraft and the Air Force Flight Test Center. This article discusses these airborne devices in detail. These devices are used to receive, record and forward all flight test data and to be used for unmanned pilot aircraft safety controls. Test results show that the use of aircraft for control and data acquisition is superior to the use of foundation equipment. The article also pointed out the potential use of these pilot aircraft.
