中文歌曲英译不但可以帮助学生透过对两种语言的深入分析而对文字、词语及语法结构有更深刻的理解与认识,在语义和语感上有更深刻的体验,还有助于学生学会处理中、英文之间韵律差异的问题。本文就三毛写词、李泰祥先生谱曲的《橄榄树》之英译过程及成品,讨论歌曲翻译者应如何选择句子结构,如何选用符合情境的字眼儿,如何透过句子结构或用词的变化以配合原歌曲的语义与情境,同时还讨论如何在译文中呈现原文应有之音乐特质。本文的研究结论是:歌曲翻译不只是文字层面的转换练习,学生学习英文若能善用已翻译的歌曲,或直接由教师引导做歌曲翻译练习来学习英文,则不仅能提升英语学习之趣味性,还能获得英语学习之多元效果。
