The disc industry is characterized by a fast-growing and vibrant market. Over the past few years, the format of optical discs has undergone rapid changes. The new formats include dual-layer DVD + R, HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, pushing the limits of the disc’s storage density to higher levels. It is hoped that optical disc manufacturing equipment can be updated to produce improved formats and new formats of optical discs. Discs with higher density and higher speed formats also tend to require tighter tolerances on their associated physical parameters. The hardware, process and software solutions for compact disc production equipment must provide high quality, high yield, low production costs for disc production and minimal operator intervention. Therefore, a prerequisite for a good production system is to make sure that the entire production process is fully automated. The key to achieving this goal is to intelligently combine sophisticated measurement tools into the CD production line.
