一般认为,传统节拍形式就是板眼。但板眼及其特征倒底是如何形成的?板眼是否包括现今传统音乐如民歌、歌舞、曲艺、戏曲、器乐的全部特征?板眼本身的特征是什么?在板眼形成前,我国音乐的节拍形式又是怎样?这些,似乎均还有重新认识之必要。尤其是把它放在中西音乐文化比较和现今音乐发展的基础上来认识。这对于从宏观上来看传统音乐的发展是十分有益的。首先,从下例两段弹词唱腔谈起,来看看传统唱腔音乐的节拍特征:
