Objective: To observe the effect of Tangweikang Capsule (糖微康, TWK) on diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods: The 119 DN patients were divided into two groups: the group of TWK treatment (n=78) and group of captopril (n=41) as the control, the dose of which was 50 mg/d. The treatment lasted for 12 weeks. The changes of symptom score, urinary microprotein series, blood glucose, renal function, etc. were observed. Results: The total effective rate of the TWK group was 84.62%; and that of the control group was 70.73%, there was significant difference between the two groups ( P <0.05). TWK treatment reduced the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, albumin, β 2 microglobulin and Tamm Horsfall protein ( P <0.05, P <0.01) in DN patients. The levels of triglyceride, angiotensin Ⅰ, angiotensin Ⅱ, atrial natriuretic polypeptide, prostaglandins, endothelin, type Ⅳ collagen and total cholesterol decreased and the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol increased in the serum of TWK treated DN patients ( P <0.05, P <0.01). Conclusion: TWK exerted obviously ameliorating effect on renal function in DN patients.
