Party history scholars generally believe that the CCP built a party branch in the Whampoa Military Academy, beginning with the direct branch and later the special branch. The main basis for this view is the article entitled “Formation and Decline of the Ch’iu-Wha Po Line” signed by Liu Tian. In fact, according to the provisions of the three party constitutions of the CPC and the disclosure of relevant historical materials, at the first phase of Whampoa, the CCP established five party groups rather than the so-called direct branch. After the first phase of Whampoa, the party organization of the Whampoa Military Academy of the CCP still took the form of secret group activities. It never set up a party branch, let alone the so-called Special Branch of the Whampoa Party of China. Why did not the CCP establish a party branch in the Whampoa Military Academy? This is mainly due to the fact that at the time, the CCP lacked sufficient understanding of the importance of military work and therefore imposed strict restrictions on the establishment and development of CCP organizations in the National Revolutionary Army, including the Whampoa Military Academy , Allowing only dispatchers of special commissioners and establishment of CCP groups in the National Revolutionary Army but not facilitating the establishment of the Party branch.
