In the past decade, the development of linguistic theory, artificial intelligence and cognitive psychology provided the basis for revealing the basic process of reading. People shift the focus of attention from the exploration of reading results into the study of the complex cognitive processes involved in reading. Beck and Carpenter discussed three basic theoretical topics that were instructive: (a) the development of a general model of reading; (b) how to develop the accuracy and speed of word recognition; (c) how to increase Training in vocabulary and background knowledge types improves reading comprehension, a research that has facilitated changes in teaching plans.
