Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is not a simple liver disease, but is closely related to the various components of the metabolic syndrome. Therefore, a suitable NASH animal model should have other components in the metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, hyperlipidemia and insulin resistance, so as to build a good experimental platform for studying the pathogenesis of NASH and seeking an effective comprehensive clinical treatment strategy . This article evaluates the pros and cons of existing NASH animal models of different species from the perspective of whether or not to incorporate other components of the metabolic syndrome.
