In the 1920s, a large number of Chinese writers and artists who came to visit France gathered in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Among them are cultural expatriates who volunteer for the spread of French culture and tourists who only focus on concentration. Some of them felt the commonalities between the classical beauty of the Latin Quarter and the classical Chinese beauty, while others felt the discomfort caused by cultural differences. This article will reveal the cultural modernity and eternity of the Chinese literati in the midst of the exotic culture of Latin America in the 1920s and analyze the role played by the Latin Quarter in the process of knowledge production in modern Chinese literature. The text reconstructs the original appearance of Tengu, composed of Chinese literati who were then active in the Latin Quarter, with various texts, including French cinematic stills by Chinese actors in the 1920s. Through a menu and various related records, the author restored the original appearance of the Wanhua Restaurant located near Sorbonne University in Paris as an important public space for the exchange of Chinese literati in the Latin Quarter.
