Objective To study the effect of high-intensity noise on auditory function in guinea pigs. Methods Twenty-four guinea pigs were randomized into control, 115 dB (A) exposure and 118 dB (A) exposure in three groups of eight. Observed and analyzed pink noise exposure 3min, guinea pig tympanic membrane, hair cells and hearing changes. Results There was no obvious damage to the tympanic membrane in the two exposed groups by otoscopy. However, both of the two exposed groups showed a significant temporary threshold shift (TTS). Cochlear implants were observed in both exposed groups (P < 0.01). The level of pre-exposure did not return to TTS30min in both groups. Compared with 115 dB (A) exposed group, hair cell damage was more severe in 118 dB (A) group and TTS increased more significantly (P <0.05). Conclusion 115dB (A) Noise Short-term exposure can cause hearing loss
